In the process of winemaking and aging, the choice of barrel type is key. Each format brings different nuances, and its use depends on both the style of wine and the winemaking tradition of each region.
At Ekinsa, we design cleaning solutions that adapt to all barrel formats, respecting the wood and guaranteeing its durability. Below, we review the main types:

BORDALESA
Named after the Bordeaux region (France), where it became popular. It is the most common barrel in the wine sector and is used to age both red and white wines.
Material: Oak
Capacity: 225 liters (approx.)
BOTA
Primarily used in the aging of Sherry wines, it is much larger in size and is always made from American white oak. In recent years, it has also become popular for aging whisky.
Material: American white oak
Capacity: From 500 to 1,500 liters
CUBA
A large, truncated-conical barrel used for the production, aging, and storage of wines. It can be placed vertically or horizontally, and its lifespan is longer than that of the others.
Capacity: From 1,000 to 5,000 liters
At Ekinsa, we work to ensure that each type of barrel receives the treatment it deserves, guaranteeing effective and safe cleaning that preserves its oenological qualities.
